Looking back – a year ago

So Crystal installed a way back machine on the site when I hit 365 days of posts, and yesterday I saw a book post from last year asking what 3 books that I would bring if I was marooned on a deserted island.

Last year, I said I’d bring:

Twilight. Because, it’s Twilight, possibly one of the greatest vampire love stories of the 20th century. ‘Nuff said.

House of Leaves. Because, it’s a totally immersive book that you can almost take a bite of. It pulls you in all the way.

Ship of Theseus. Again, another immersive book. Looking back, I’d probably lose all the extras that are stuffed in the book.

I saw the post, and was inspired to update the list. There’s only one that has stayed the same. Can you guess which one? I bet you dollars to donuts, that you cannot guess which book will be the same as last year.

The first book is one that I haven’t read yet, as I’m waiting for October to read a horror book. The first book that I would bring to a deserted island would be The Troop by Nick Cutter.

The second book I would bring is the last book that I finished – Bats of the Republic by Zachary Thomas Dodson. It was a great book that pulls you in from the first page. I’m sure there’s so much more to learn about the world that Dodson created.

The last book is ….

Wait for it ….

Are you shivering in antici…..

…. pation?

The last book is House of Leaves. If you haven’t read it yet, then all that you have read couldn’t have possibly prepared you for HoF.

Until next time book nerds!

Lockup Library – some of the books I read last year – part 3

Ahh the final entry in the three part series of some of the books I read last year. This one is a special one. It’s all one series. A series that I have read many, many times. So many times that it’s embarrassing. So gaze upon the majesty of this book series.

Gaze, I said. Gaze.

“Say it…” he whispered. “Vampire.” I shuddered.

That’s right! Take a trip back to Forks, Washington. It’s a time before social media, and cell phones. It’s just pure teen angst, and high school in a small town in the northwest.

Team Edward, or Team Jacob?

What can be said about this series? For one thing, it’s better than Fifty Shades of Grey, or so I’m told. I think I made it through the first book of that series. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t all that great either.

This series, is totally the bomb.com. Action? Not until the last 25 pages – of each book. But if you want some romance, vampires, werewolves, gray days, and some angst? These books are for you.

They’re easy to read, and totally take you into the stories. Perfect for those rainy or snowy days where you just want to smoke some dank weed, and curl up.

They aren’t perfect in any way, but they’re perfect to me. I’m comfortable enough in my manliness to admit to crying at the end. Multiple times.

And to me, that’s a good book.

Catch ya in a book store sometime, book nerds!

Lockup Library – some of the books I read last year – part 2

Welcome back, book nerds! I know you’ve been on the edge of your seats, with bated breath – just waiting for part two. Well, your wishes have been answered!

So without further adieu, here’s part two of some of the books I read last year, or as I like to called it: Shawshank has learned how to stack books.

Part 2 and a picture!

Just a short stack, you know, to draw this series out – a blatant grab for more hits! Or as I call it, a small but powerful stack of books.

All of these, I would totally reread if given the chance (and time). I really enjoyed reading them all. Two of them, I watched the TV shows before reading the books. The shows were good, but the books were really good.

It’s almost the end of this mini series of posts. It’ll be time for the big finale soon. So hold on, book nerds – it’s about to get a little crazy!

Lockup Library – some of the books I read last year – part 1

Ahh, part one of a three part mini series. Hello book nerds! Welcome back, pull up a chair and settle in. Part one is the biggest of the three parts.

The first pile

It’s a big one isn’t it? In the grand scheme, it’s not a lot, but it’s a start, isn’t it? This is also the only pile of books, that there are one or two books that I won’t reread. I always try and be diplomatic and positive in my book clubs, and reviews, but two of these books won’t be reread. I’m holding on to one of those for Crystal to read when she gets here.

That book? The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt.

The other book that doesn’t get a reread from me is Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.

I didn’t enjoy either of these books. And it was a slog to get through them. I shouldn’t have to put that much energy into doing something that I love. Thankfully I only put pocket change into buying them.

The only other one that was meh, was The Escape Artist by Brad Meltzer. It wasn’t great, it wasn’t terrible. But it was like he tried to remake The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in America, and he paired her with a mortician. Odd couple? For sure.

And, if you’ve been following this blog for a while, this pile has my favourite book in it. Go a head, hope you guess my name!

Catch ya later, book nerds!

Book club – 3 books I’d like to reread

Well hello, book nerds!

Just a quick post – these are just 3 of many books that I’d love to reread after I get through my ever expanding TBR shelf. There’s a lot of great books to reread on my shelves. These are only the ones that really jumped out at me.

What’s on your reread shelf?

Until next time, book nerds!
