Book haul!

Hello book friends! I finally got the chance to sit down and do a proper book haul. This is a couple weeks in the making. From the last time I was in SlightlyBiggerTown, to my boss, to the trip into BiggerTown today, I have a few to finally show off.

The top 3 and the ones under Larsson’s books are from my boss. She brought in 4 boxes of books that she’s going to give to a second hand store. So I went through them, and grabbed what I wanted.

So, The first two of Millennium Trilogy, European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman, and Th1rteen R3asons Why, are from the second hand shop in SlightlyBiggerTown. While Confessions of the 7:45 came from Walmart yesterday morning.

I can’t wait to dive into some of these!

Which books did you get over the last couple of weeks?

What were your favourite childhood books

I was thinking about it a couple of days ago. Just remembering what I used to read.

I used to plow through tonnes of books. I had just about the whole original blue hardcovers of The Hardy Boys by Franklin W. Dixon. I loved reading them. I wish that I still had those books. The originals. I’ve heard that they’ve done massive edits to them to “modernize” them.

The other book that I remember loving was Danny, The Champion of the World by Roald Dahl. It’s such a great story of a father and son, and the grand adventure they have together. It’s just so magical, and in some ways I wished I had a father like that growing up to have adventures with.

What were your favourite books from when you were a kid? Tell me about them!

Book club: Brave New world & The Girl on the Train

Good afternoon my book lovers, There’s a bonus today. I’ll be talking about two books! I know, he has no time to read, but he’s reading two books now? While it’s true that I’m still trying to find balance between work and reading, I really wanted to read both of them.

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

It’s very retro-futuristic. So I’m enjoying it so far. I’m not too far into it, but it’s very good. Very strange, and I don’t really know what’s going on in it so far. It seems to me there’s one really popular chick that everyone wants to date. They kinda sleep around and baby’s are made in a test tube. I can’t wait to dive into this and finish it up.

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

I remember watching a movie about this book. I liked the movie, but I got really sucked into the book. Although, it could be “Delusional Drunk Girl on a train”! The book is told from the perspectives of three different women.

I know not too much to go on with these books, but I’ve really only read the first couple of chapters each. But, let it be known, I’m really liking both books so far!

Like a band of gypsies – we go down the highway

Good morning! Happy Sunday! The coffee is brewing and it’s a brand new day! Today will be a busy one. I’ll be heading by myself to BiggerTown to do my shopping.

Two hours there. Shop. Lunch. Maybe a little more shopping, then two hours home.

My list is simple

  • Body pillow
  • Melatonin
  • More undershirts
  • Shoes
  • Razors
  • Lunches for the week

All stuff that’s a lot cheaper at Walmart than it is at any of the stores in either SlightlyBiggerTown. Then tomorrow, when my mom goes to SlightlyBiggerTown to get the oil changed, I’ll babysit gramma. At that time, if I don’t do it when I get back to the house today, I can work on the book club, and a book haul post that I’ve been meaning to do for a week or so.

But for now, coffee.

Happy Sunday y’all.

First Line Friday

Woohoo, we made it to Friday! So here’s the game that we’re playing; I give you the first couple lines of a random book on my shelf, you guess in the comments, and next week, I’ll give you the answer!

Last weeks book was Clan of the Cave Bear. Did you figure it out?

That sounds like fun, amirite?

Ok, ready? Let’s go!

For a long time the horizon had been a monotonous flat blue line separating the Pacific Ocean from the sky. The Navy helicopter raced forward, flying low, near the waves. Despite the nous and thumping vibration of the blades, Norman Johnson fell asleep.

Think you have the answer? Comment below!

Until next week…
