Book club – Plain Bad Heroines

Hey hey book nerds! It’s Sunday, so that means it’s time for another Lockup Library Book Club meeting! It’s been a crazy stressful week, but I’m not complaining, because when it’s stressful, it’s time to relax and read.

This months book is Plain Bad Heroines by Emily M. Danforth.

Ooh staging!

Fun fact: Emily lives and plays in Rhode Island, and the book is at least as far as I’ve read, partly based in RI. It kinda makes me a little homesick, but in a sad smile type of way.

This book has everything! Multiple storylines, multiple timelines, footnotes, Yellowjackets, meta conversations. In other words, this book is right up my alley for sure. The author is even a character (sort of), in the book. She breaks the fourth wall and communicates directly to the reader, in a snarky humorous tone.

There’s two times presented in the book so far – 1904 in Rhode Island, and present day in Hollywood. Three girls at an all girls school in RI die, and in the present day, they are adopting the book about what happened into a movie.

That’s as far as I got so far. It’s a really good read, and the author is doing a fine job of setting the stage. There’s just a lot of characters to try and remember, a fact that the author reminds you to do in a few of the footnotes.

I can’t wait to continue to read this! Until next time, book nerds!
