Sometimes I’m a strong man, sometimes cold and scared

So I emailed the local library asking when the next book sale will be they didn’t have a date planned, but they said I could come down and poke through their shed of books.

Nothing jumped out at me – a lot of Readers Digest Condensed books, kids books, a couple of James Bond novels, but nothing I had to have.

I did volunteer to organize the books and take photos for an online book sale. But we’ll see if that pans out. I’ve offered to volunteer at a couple of places, and people seemed excited, but nothing has come of it. It’s been six months and nothing yet. But maybe I’ll be able to help the library out.

So from there, I hoofed it over to the second hand store. I stood in line for half an hour – as they have their pandemic rules in effect, only six people in at a time. That’s ok, I’ve never seen it that busy. Then I saw why, they’re doing a bag sale – stuff a bag full of clothes, and only pay $7

I did manage to find two books!

Can’t wait to start them after the book I’m currently reading. Crystal always says that his short stories are really good, but I don’t think she’s read these ones because they are some of his newer ones. We’ll see how it turns out.

Yay reading!

These fragile bodies of touch and taste

Good morning everyone. Time to get up and greet the day – the day of Tues. it looks sunny and bright outside, and it’s warm enough to already have the door to the garage open.

I slept like a log again last night, only getting up once in the night, and I was able to go right back to sleep. The bed was so snuggly, I didn’t want to get up. But I did, made some coffee, and now I’m watching the Canadian today show. They have some of the worst jokes – I think even worse than Al Roker. If I remember, I have a joke for Crystal when I call her tonight.

I just passed chapter 5 in The Historian. I’m enjoying the slow burn story so far. It’s Tuesday, and only 15 more chapters before the first Book Club meeting. But it’s like I can see the future, and I’ll post about the first 20 chapters, and I’ll be the only one talking about it, and no discussions will follow. And that’s ok.

But, time to drink some coffee, and watch some TV, happy Tuesday!

That’s great, it starts with an earthquake

From what the calendar says, it’s Monday, and it’s sunny, and windy out. It’s probably cold. I haven’t opened my weather app, and at this point I’m afraid to.

But I have coffee.

We’ll see what today brings. I believe my dads taking a half day, so he and my mom can go into SlightlyBiggerTown, to fill his prescription. I’ve already heard his phone going off.

I slept like a rock last night, so I’m feeling pretty ok so far this morning. I think it’ll be a good day, even though it’s a Monday. Stay safe out there, people.

But they don’t mean a thing if you’re not with me

So sitting here and thinking about the book club I’d like to start, and Crystal is napping, so I can’t bounce ideas off of her, I decided to plow ahead full speed* and I decided the first book for my Lockup Library Book Club, and that is:

The Historian, by Elizabeth Kostova.

There’s 79 chapters in the book so I broke it down like this:

  • Chapters 1-20 due Oct 10th
  • Chapters 21-40 due Oct 17th
  • Chapters 41-60 due Oct 24th
  • Chapters 61-79 due Oct 31st

I figure every seven days we come back and discuss the previous chapters, you know that deal – what we thought, where it’s going, etc.

* it’s better to keep my head thinking about this, otherwise, I’d really be freaking out about my mom taking my dad to the hospital 30 minutes away. His knee/leg is all swollen. I’m a little freaky-outie right now to be honest.

Big sigh

So I want to be a paperback writer

I stare at my books a lot. I look for more books that I want to read. Hopefully I can find some in the two or three second hand stores that I regularly go into. TinyTown and the surrounding areas, I figure, aren’t really into reading. The closest book store is 2.5 hours away. My mom is a reader – Nora Roberts, and her pen names.

From what I can find, there is a book club through the library. But I can’t find out how to join it, or have i been able to find a list of books the club has read.

Online book clubs would be where I’d go next. But then it comes down to finding the books. That could be the hard part.

If I were to post a list, updated every time I got a book, would any of my readers like to do a Void if Removed Book Club? Pick a book in my collection, and then discuss it?

It could be fun. At least I think it could be.

What do y’all think? Comment below, yay, or nay.
