Home video: Homeland

Here’s where I watched Homeland Season 1, Episode 2: Grace. It first aired in 2011 on Showtime. Now it’s on Netflix Canada. So I figured that it’s a lazy Sunday here, and the fact that it’s -27 with the wind, I watch an episode. I started watching it last week, the pilot episode was better than most pilot episodes that I’ve seen.

This is the main character, Carrie, played by Claire Danes. Carrie works for the CIA as an operations officer, and she suspects a recently returned POW is a double agent. It’s a very good slow burn. Little bits of action thrown in here and there. Carrie has the POW, Brody’s house wired for sight and sound, but couldn’t afford to bug his garage, where unknown to her, prays in the morning. He’s Muslim.

Every twist, and every turn has you asking yourself, is Brody a double agent? Is Carrie mentally fit, or is she paranoid about Brody for no reason. I have to find out. I’ll be watching more of this show for sure. I like shows like this where it’s a slow burn, and they always keep you guessing. I suppose it’s more like everyone’s good and bad. It’s all different shades of grey. It’s not just black and white.

Book Club: The Girl on the Train

Hey book nerds! It’s time for the next instalment of Lockup Library Book Club. A couple of hours late, but better late than never. I originally sat down, thinking I was going to blast through Brave New World, but I really couldn’t get into it today. So I picked up The Girl on the Train.

I’ve never been blackout drunk. I mean, I’ve always remembered what I’ve done. Even if I pass out and throw up in a friends house. I remember it. That way I don’t do it again.

Well Rachel has been blackout drunk a couple of times already, and the police are asking her questions about what she did last Saturday. She can’t remember. She can remember bits and pieces of what she thinks might have happened, but can’t remember exactly what happened.

What has happened is that the woman that she sees from her morning train ride into London has gone missing. And the police are trying to figure out what’s happened. Rachel was seen near by the woman’s house on Saturday, drunk. And seems to be a prime suspect.

I’m intrigued, and also want to know what’s going on. I guess I’ll have to keep reading to find that out! Until next time, keep your nose in a book!

I’ve got to go home – baby you’ll freeze out there

Awake! I think I’m starting to get used to the king size mattress. I’m slowly starting to stretch out. I’ll stretch out, wake up, and curl back up again.

It’s cold out there, and it looks cold – it’s currently -15c, but with the wind chill it feels like -27c. I don’t think I’ll be going outside today. It’s supposed to be warmer out tomorrow, but not by much. But I have to go to the post office to mail Christmas cards for my grandmother.

I have Christmas movies playing this morning. I don’t know why, I just want the holidays to be over. My mom asked me what I wanted, I looked at her and asked for Crystal, 2 kitties, and her truck to be here for Christmas. I know that’s not going to happen. It would be nice. But it’s not going to actually poof and happen. So I gave her a list of books.

But I’m up, and have a cup of coffee beside me. The next Christmas movie is called Christmas in Rome. I’ll get to see how other people from across the world celebrate the holiday. Like a documentary. Maybe I’ll learn something!

Anyways, happy Sunday. Stay warm and snuggled up. After Shady Acres goes down for their afternoon nap, I’m going to try and get some reading in, and get a book club post up.

When I remember to put the coffee in the machine, I can make a really good cup of coffee. I don’t want to toot my own horn, but toot toot!

Riddle me this…

Ok, I’m new at the whole book blogging thing, but I have a question. And I’ll try not to sound like an ass. But please believe me, I’m asking out of total curiosity, no malice at all.

What’s the draw of reading YA novels?

It seems that like 80% of all book bloggers blog about the newest and greatest YA book. Is it because you don’t like “adult” novels? I don’t understand what’s so great about them. Or do you just read them to fly through your GoodReads reading challenge?

Again, I’m not trying to disparage or insult the books you read, just simply curious.

I wanna really really, really wanna zigazig ah

So here’s how my morning has gone so far. Alarm goes off, I get up. In the process of making my bed I knock stuff all over the place. Clean that up. Make coffee. I forgot the coffee. I successfully made hot water this morning.

Happy Saturday!

Yep, I have a day off. I needed it. It felt like such a long week. I was really watching the clock the last hour and a half. I just wanted to get the heck out, and start the weekend.

Well, it’s here. Now what?

I think I am going to try and schedule some more bookish posts. I want to read at least one of the two books I have going. I’ve let that slide and I’m disappointed in myself. I’ll try to read either today, Sunday or Monday. Maybe I’ll read a little all three days.

So, I hope all y’all have a great weekend! Catch ya later!
