First line Friday

Hey hey book nerds! We’ve made it to another Friday, I’m proud of us. We did it! So Friday means another first line Friday. You ready? I’m ready.

What was last weeks book, you ask? Did anyone guess? Did you guess correctly? I don’t know, because there were no comments 🧐

But here was last weeks book: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Here’s this weeks. I have a hint as well. It was recently featured in a book haul. And it was published this year. I know, me with a book from this year. Mind blown.

She watched. That was her gift. To disappear into the black, sink into the shadows behind and between. That’s where you really saw thing for what they were, when people revealed their true natures.

Can you guess it? Post a comment with your guess, and may the odds ever be in your favour!

3 for Thursday

Three quick questions. Three quick answers. I like these types of posts. Bring on the questions!

Bookmark or dog earring the page?

Usually, I’d just dog eat the page, but the last batch of books I picked up at the local second hand store had a bookmark in one of the books. So now I use bookmarks. Bookmarks are cool.

Hard cover or paperback?

I’m easy. I’ll take whatever I can get my hands on. I like the trade paperbacks. They’re a little bigger than mass market paperbacks, and usually better quality. So I think my answer is trade paperbacks.

Do you like cliff hangers?

I love cliff hangers. I just need access to the next book in a series, so I can find out what happens next, right away.

So there you go, 3 for Thursday. It’s almost the weekend!

WWW Wednesday

This is a simple one to do. But I like it. It’s just a wicked quick blurb and window into what’s going on here at the Lockup Library.

What are you currently reading?

I’m actually reading two books; Brave New World, and The Girl on The Train. I hope to have Brave New World finished soon.

What have you recently finished reading?

The last book I finished was Full Dark, No Stars. A book full of short stories by Stephen King. I really enjoyed them. Just enough meat on the plate to paint a picture, then boom! Next story.

What do you plan on reading next?

That’s a very good question. I usually crowd source what I read next from my readers, but I might snag a Christmas book from work. See the boss brought in boxes of books to donate to the library, and we’ve been taking the books that we want. There’s a Christmas mystery there that I might take and read. Or maybe Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I haven’t decided.

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer, and Vixen

Good morning. Happy second Monday. I was up before my alarm went off this morning. The weighted blanket had shifted. I must have been tossing and turning bad for it to almost be off the bed. I don’t remember. It did take me a while to fall asleep. Which is weird. I’m usually out like a light.

But today is a new day. It’s a good day, to have a good day. I tease Crystal about that, but I tell it to myself every morning, to help facilitate a good day. It usually works. So yes, today is a good day, to have a good day.

It’s warmed up a lot! It only feels like -16c out there with the wind chill. Without it -11c not too shabby. Thankfully, I have covfefe.

Happy 2nd Monday everyone! Let’s work hard and make this day feel like first Monday. But first Monday is a holiday, and you’re at home playing video games and eating chocolate chips straight out the bag. I love you.

3 popular books I’d like to read

There’s so many books that I’d like to read. If you looked at my hand written list you probably wouldn’t know where to start. Like I said, there’s so many that I want to read, I just picked 3 to talk about this fine morning

The Troop by Nick Cutter.

The Troop follows a group of Boy Scouts that have to battle tapeworms, and danger from within. Seems like an amazing physiological thriller. I’ve never had a book “scare me” before. Maybe this one will scare me!

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E Schwab.

The whole premise of this book interested me as soon as I read about it. An 18th century woman makes a deal with the devil to live forever, but is cursed to have no one remember her. Until someone does. Sounds interesting, doesn’t it?

The Sundown Motel by Simone St. James.

Murder mystery in the 80s? Sure! I loves me a murder mystery for sure! I’ve ready it’s part mystery, and part ghost story. I actually think in one of the horror lists Crystal has sent me, that it was on there, and the cover caught my eye.

Honorable mention: Pine by Francine Toon. Described as a modern gothic horror. Sounds like I’d like it!

So there you have it 3 popular books I’d like to read!
