Book haul

Hey there book nerds! I have another book haul! I know, I know, I can’t read what I have, why am I buying more books? Because it was full a bag for a buck, and there was one that’s been on my list for a while. Is that enough? Ok then, how ‘bout this:

One book = .50c, or a bag of books for $1. So logically, it’s better to buy a bag of books rather than just one.

Right?

I think I’m most excited about The Haunting of Hill House. But they all look good, don’t they?

On another note. All the Christmas shopping is done. But this year, it’s just going to be another day. There’s no tree, and we’re the only house on the block with no lights. This is the first year that I’m really getting sick of Christmas music.

304 days.

Mondrei (drei is German for 3)

Who’s your favourite fictional couple?

Wow, that’s either an easy answer, or a very difficult one. Depending on what you expect me to say. Heh. The easy one would be to say Bella and Edward. Or even Hermione and Ron. But that might be really too easy, amirite? So I’ll have to say Eric and Clio from The Raw Shark Texts. They have a great banter back and forth. You can almost feel the love come off the page.

What’s a book you’d give as a present?

Hmm. This is a hard one. There’s been so many great books that I’ve read this year. I’d have to say that I’d have no problem giving House of Leaves as a gift. Or even Ship of Theseus. My number one would definitely be House of Leaves.

What was your least favourite book you’ve read this year?

Simple! I really really did not like The Goldfinch. Totally unliveable characters, I won’t even mention the mess that the author called “the middle of the book”. I’m pretty sure I didn’t finish it because everyone in the book is a terrible person, and life is too short to waste time on a shitty book.

Until next time, book nerds!

Book club: Brave New World/The Girl on the Train

Just wanted to drop a quick note to all my book nerds out there. I don’t think I’ll be able to host the Lockup Library Book Club today. It’s just been too hectic here at Shady Acres.

Between helping my mom bake, I’ve shovelled the falling snow twice, cleaned and refilled the pellet stove, and when my mom is done baking, I’ll be taking over the kitchen to bake Crystal’s World Famous Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cake.

She’s going to give it to my dads boss, so this cake will be an international phenomenon.

So hopefully, next week the book club will be back in full force. But I will admit, I’m not too impressed with Brave New World. I don’t know if I have to be in the right frame of mind, or if I’m just not into it. I’ll try to read a little more before I decide either way. I think I’ve gone 100s of books since my last DNF.

Until next week, book nerds!

First line Friday

Hey hey book nerds! We’ve made it to another Friday, I’m proud of us. We did it! So Friday means another first line Friday. You ready? I’m ready.

What was last weeks book, you ask? Did anyone guess? Did you guess correctly? I don’t know, because there were no comments 🧐

But here was last weeks book: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Here’s this weeks. I have a hint as well. It was recently featured in a book haul. And it was published this year. I know, me with a book from this year. Mind blown.

She watched. That was her gift. To disappear into the black, sink into the shadows behind and between. That’s where you really saw thing for what they were, when people revealed their true natures.

Can you guess it? Post a comment with your guess, and may the odds ever be in your favour!

3 for Thursday

Three quick questions. Three quick answers. I like these types of posts. Bring on the questions!

Bookmark or dog earring the page?

Usually, I’d just dog eat the page, but the last batch of books I picked up at the local second hand store had a bookmark in one of the books. So now I use bookmarks. Bookmarks are cool.

Hard cover or paperback?

I’m easy. I’ll take whatever I can get my hands on. I like the trade paperbacks. They’re a little bigger than mass market paperbacks, and usually better quality. So I think my answer is trade paperbacks.

Do you like cliff hangers?

I love cliff hangers. I just need access to the next book in a series, so I can find out what happens next, right away.

So there you go, 3 for Thursday. It’s almost the weekend!
