Book Haul – BigCity edition

Greetings, book nerds! I have been to BigCity, and have returned to TinyTown with books. Book that were published this year! With the exception of one or two, there were all published in 2020.

Amazing, isn’t it. Looking back, I’m really happy that I didn’t go earlier, you know, before I had a job. I didn’t spend as much as I thought I was going to, which is nice. What was nicer, is that I went when they were having the boxing week sale. So essentially, I got two of the books basically free.

Without further adieu, I present my last book haul of 2020.

It took me a few minutes, but I think I’m going to read The Guest List by Lucy Foley first.

From the back of the book: An exclusive wedding on a remote Irish island – the bride, the plus-one, the best man, the wedding planner, the bridesmaid. All have a secret. All have a motive. But only one is a murderer.

Sounds really interesting for sure! I’ll try and get some reading done to talk about it in this weekends Lockup Library Book Club. See you then, book nerds!

He said will you defeat them – your demons and all the non-believers

Good morning, hap hap happy Monday y’all! We lived through the weekend again!

I don’t really have a lot to say this morning. I’m up early, yes. Because if I don’t, I have no time to quietly wake up and then it’s just bad all around. So I got up a little early. That way I’m not in the way as people are trying to get up and to their morning routines.

So yeah, my coffee is just about brewed, and I’m up and dressed – I didn’t even forget my mask. I’m already wearing it. I’ll remind everyone once they’re up.

My mom last night, said we’d make time for me at a book store. That’s what I’m excited about. So some running around for them, and a book store for me.

Ok, coffee is done and I have to head over to the bathroom. Have a super Monday everyone!!

Book Club – Brave New World

What if God had made cars?

So I just finished Brave New World. I don’t know how I feel about it. It’s definitely a book that I’ll have to revisit later. I think it’s a book that most of the points went over my head.

I simply just don’t understand.

Maybe it’s because I didn’t read it all in one sitting, it was very hard to get back into it when I did pick it up. I mean, it started off really good, but the next time I picked it up, it was like a totally different book.

I mean I didn’t not like it. I just don’t know. I couldn’t identify with any of the themes of the book. In the end, I think I just finished the book so I wouldn’t have the shame of putting in back on my shelf as a “did not finish”. I’m neither happy, nor sad that I finished it.

It just is.

And stumbled downstairs to meet the day

Good morning everyone! And by everyone I mean the 1 or 2 people that actually stop scrolling long enough to read this. How’re you doing this fine dark Sunday morning? It snowed here a little last night. Maybe a half an inch. I can’t really tell. I’ll shovel later.

Coffee is brewing, and I’m dressed. I have to do my laundry today, as the plan tomorrow is to go to BigCity. I have a couple of things on my mental list to get. I should probably write them down. Of course the last time I wrote stuff down, I neglected to actually look at the the list, and stuff forgot things.

All right in the world for a couple of minutes – have a fresh cup of coffee sitting in front of me.

So anyways. Have a great Sunday everyone. Enjoy grocery shopping, or whatever else you have planned. Enjoy the day!

Well I hear you in the morning – and I hear you at nightfall

Good morning everyone! Who has two thumbs, and forgot to shut off his alarm? This guy right here! Up as if I was going into work today. So the coffee is brewing, and I’m up, and dressed. I’m ready to greet the day.

It’s Boxing Day today. The day the rich people give their servants boxes of left over food and gifts I believe. It’s weird. I’ve always kind of explained it like this is Canada’s version of Black Friday. However things have changed since I’ve been gone, and Canada does the whole Black Friday thing now.

Anyways, I hope everyone had a good Friyay. Here at Shady Acres, it was pretty ok. I got a couple shirts, a toque, sheets for the bed, and a toque. No books! I was very surprised. Monday, we’re supposed to be heading into BiggerTown. I’m going to lobby to go into BigCity. For one simple thing:

I want 30 minutes of unfettered access to a book store. Yes, 30 minutes. Not too long, not too short. Just enough to choose one or two books that have been on my list for a while. Then we can do anything they want. That’s all I’m going to ask for.

Keep your fingers crossed for me!

But right now, coffee. There’s a Christmas movie on TV, but I’m not really paying attention to it. Justice League is up next. Then Wonder Woman. The funny thing? I bought my dad Avengers: Endgame, thinking he’d seen Infinity War. He hadn’t. So when we go into BiggerTown, or BigCity, I’m going to get it for him. He’s never seen Thor’s entrance to Wakonda. Blows my mind!

I have no idea what’s going on today. But for now, shhh, let Shady Acres sleep. Happy Saturday y’all.
