5 books to read to survive the pandemic

First off, I want to draw attention to this absolutely fabulous Lockup Library graphic. I asked Crystal to make me some graphics for the site, and she knocked it out of the park. A really big thank you to Crystal. I love em!

Ok, just scrolling through the Discovery section of the WordPress app, and I saw a post about surviving the lockdown. So here’s my take, since (knock on wood) there’s been no lockdown here, on 5 books that’ll help you survive the pandemic.

1. House of Leaves.

This book is so immersive, that you’ll forget where you are. If you like puzzles, footnotes for days, and a pretty ambiguous ending, then this will be the first book that will help you survive the pandemic.

2. Foucault’s Pendulum.

This book throws you right into the action of the mysteries of secret societies and conspiracy theories. It goes to show that if you make something up, someone out there will believe you and go to all sorts of ends to protect it. This will be the second book to help you survive the pandemic.

3. Midnight Sun.

Take a vampire that’s been around for over 100 years, and give him is Juliet. Follow Edward as he second guesses himself at every turn. This is Twilight from Edwards perspective. This is the third book that’ll help you survive the pandemic.

4. The Historian.

Another vampire book, but this one has a twist – the possibility that Vlad Dracul is still alive. It’s a book with time jumps, both back and forth, with multiple main characters. This is the fourth book that will help you survive the pandemic.

5. Night Film.

The final book that will help you survive the pandemic is Night Film. A mystery/thriller. You could also call it a murder mystery as well. It’s a mixed media book with websites, and magazines in it. Confused? You’ll have a grand time figuring everything out.

Honorable mention:

The Stand. Real life mimicking books? Maybe! But this book is good. Scary good. Scary because it’s like real life!

I hope you enjoyed my 5 books that’ll help get you through the pandemic. Thoughts? Comments? Post them below!

And then we’re gonna find out best friend Doug

I decided last night that I wasn’t going to change my alarm. It went off this morning, and all I could think of is why didn’t I change my alarm. But I’m up, and coffee is brewing.

Sleep came pretty quickly, and stayed with me for the night. That was a nice surprise to sleep the entire night.

I’ll be helping my dad with some wall removal. But who knows when that’ll happen. I’m sure instead of waking up at a normal time, and spending most of the day doing it. He’ll stretch it over two days. Because he’s like a ferret and if left to his own devices, he’ll sleep for 18 hours.

I am however, very excited to introduce some wicked professional graphics to the site. You’ll see one later today, and of course for book club tomorrow. They’ll make the site look like the bees knees, and bonafide. I can’t wait for you to see them. Crystal does amazing work.

So give them blood, blood – gallons of the stuff

Good morning, happy Friyay! Today is my first full day at work. I have to find out if I’m working tomorrow. That’ll be interesting. All by myself, 4 hours a day and a half training. I’m gonna talk with the other newbie, but a newbie that’s been there a week or two longer than me, and say you take this Saturday, and I’ll do next after I get some more real life experience.

The sleep was ok. Definitely better than the night before. But not the best. It still took a while to fall asleep. Some strange dreams – army mess hall, and unable to control my bladder. Strange!

But first, my coffee should be ready to consume. Mmm! Coffee!

I’m just looking forward to coming home, and chatting with Crystal! I am happy I got a job. I just gotta get used to getting up, and moving with a purpose again. Happy Friyay, friends!

Oh, before I forget, I’m planning on moving the Lockup Library Book Club to Sunday afternoon. That way it doesn’t interfere with my on/off work schedule.

And as I recall, we both kinda liked it

So, the last couple Saturday’s or Sunday’s, I’ve been taking a little time for myself, and watching The Twilight Saga on Netflix Canada. Well, I finished the last movie last weekend. So I’ve been thinking what to watch (or finish) next.

So I thought that I’d finish Dark. Then I said to myself “self, no. Think about this; you and Crystal are on the same episode. Finish the season when she gets here.”

Good idea, self.

So, after that, I’m always up for a train wreck, and when I think train wreck, I’m thinking Riverdale. Gimme some of that Gryphons and Gargoyles, and some sweet sweet Jingle Jangle. Riverdale could be a possibility.

Or I could go old school, and time travel back to 1998, and back to the creek. I randomly watched Dawson’s Creek back in the day. So this would be a little nostalgia, and new territory. I don’t know, if I remember it right, it was a show of a bunch of little shits using big words and sounding smarter than they actually are.

Or, do I just concentrate on movies? Then there’s the question, what movies? I’ve been out of the loop for a while. I don’t know what good and what’s crappy.

Any suggestions for me?

They could care less – as long as someone will bleed

So my first night, my trail by fire went really well. Thankfully it’s not an every day thing. I didn’t get home till shortly after 10. About an hour after I take my sleepy time medicine.

So needless to say I slept like shite. Tossing and turning. Bad dreams. up early in the morning to go to the bathroom. Too hot too cold. You know that usual. The dreams were weird. My nephew broke his bike and I was the only that wanted to fix it. I had to weld a part and by the time I got back his dad bought him a new bike. And they all laughed at me.

The other dream, I was with my mother in law, and Crystal and I were asking for money to get through the month, and she said no she couldn’t afford it, and then her other daughter called and said her car broke down, and my MIL said no problem, and bought her a new used minivan.

That’s when I walked home. Suddenly I wasn’t in RI, I was in TotallyBiggestTown, and I was trying to find my way home. I was all alone and totally lost.

Today, thankfully, I go in for only a few hours, then it’s home to look after my gramma as my mom has to get a tooth pulled. Tomorrow will be my first full shift. And even though I’m tired and have a headache, I’m kinda excited to go.
