Book club – The Fifty Year Sword

Hello book nerds! The masses have spoken, and yesterday I started The Fifty Year Sword by Mark Z. Danielewski.

Let me tell you I’m throughly confused so far. In House of Leaves, there were only a few different stories to read at once. In Sword, from what I can tell, there’s 5 different “voices” – made plain by different coloured quotation marks. So while I know the “just” of the story, I’m only 23 pages in, and I really have no clue what’s going on!

And I know that I said that I’d talk about the first chapter, but I’m pretty sure that there’s no chapters in this book. But I think that I’m enjoying it!

Book club – Choose your own adventure

Good morning book nerds! I said I’d post about which book to read next, and here it is! I’m posting early, in hopes that this post will get shared, and commented on. Tomorrow, I’ll post the results and I’ll talk about the first chapter of which ever book you guys and gals decide for me!

I think this will be fun, and I hope for maximum audience participation! So reshare, and comment my beautiful book nerds!

So without further adieu, I present the three books fighting to be read first. So here’s the deal. The book with the most votes, I’ll read first, next, second, and so forth. Fun!

So, vote early, vote often, just like in the US elections! I can’t wait to see what y’all decide! Until tomorrow, book nerds!

Book club: Plain Bad Heroines

Hello book nerds! I feel so much better now that I’ve finally finished Plain Bad Heroines by Emily M. Danforth! It’s like some weight has been lifted off of me. I accomplished something the been literally months in the making.

It’s the journey, not the ending.

The ending was ok, it didn’t seem too rushed, like in the case of The Arctic Fury. But lemme tell you, that the last 15-20 pages felt like they just flew through my fingers.

This was a great book, it sucks you right in right from the beginning. I really liked it.

Tomorrow, dear book nerds, I’ll be posting an informal poll, to see which book I should read next. It’ll be easy – 3 books, and all you have to do is comment and tell me which one you want me to read first, second, and third.

Until tomorrow, nerds of the books!

Book haul – I took my dad to the hospital edition

So after I dropped my dad off at the hospital, I figured I had about 2 hours before I had to be back to pick him up. So I had some time.

First stop – Value Village. I didn’t find anything of note there. Sadly.

Then, after thinking about it, I decided to go to an actual bookstore. The book I actually went in for: If on a Winter’s Night a Traveller is nowhere to be found – I could order it, but any actual bookstore for pick up is two plus hours away, I could get it delivered, but then there’s the little thing of not having an actual credit card. So, I’ll wait for that.

I did find some books though! Not a lot though, because I’m relearning how to be an adult, and adults have budgets. So instead of books, I’m choosing electricity, rent, water, etc.

I did find two!

So after the book store, and the endorphin rush ended, I was parked across the street from the hospital, and waited. I brought a book. I think I made about 20 pages, and my dad was ready to be picked up.

So, the plan was, and will be for next week, that part of the weekend (after work) is to freakin buckle down and read, and hopefully finish Plain Bad Heroines.

Until next time we meet, book nerds!

Gotta have a friend in Jesus

I slept until my alarm went off this morning. I was slightly awake, but I refused to roll over and look at the clock, thinking to myself that the alarm hasn’t gone off yet, and it will go off, so I might as well just sleep until it goes off. So that’s what I did.

Today, is bonding day. I’m taking my dad to CapitalCity. He might have a detached retina. So later this morning, we’ll be heading up to the hospital up there. I’m bringing a book. If they are like the hospital in SlightlyBiggerTown, I’ll be waiting in the truck. After he goes in, I may drive to the mall. It’s about 3km away to get lunch. I would walk, but it’s been raining here all night, so it might be raining there too. I wouldn’t want to risk getting half way to the mall, and it start pouring.

In preparation of this surprise trip, I did my laundry last night. So most of my chores are down. I’ll clean the bathroom, and dust and all that happy stuff. But right now, it’s some news, and some coffee which just finished brewing.

Happy Sunday, y’all!
