Do you have book goals? Why?

Do you have a book goal? If so why?

I personally don’t have a book goal. I’ve done the whole GoodReads reading challenge. I didn’t like it. I felt like I needed to read. Had too just so I could click another box. It gave me anxiety. I purposely chose shorter and shorter books to quickly complete my goal, and then I could announce, Hey guys y u read so slow?

I think at that point people are focusing on quantity over quality. That’s not how someone should read. These are my thoughts. Are you even retaining any information/story out of a book if that’s number 401 for the year?

I’m not keeping count, but I’ve read a pretty good number. But yeah, I feel wicked guilty for not having read the next short story in Full Dark, No Stars. I have a feeling I’ll be reading some on Saturday after work, and some Sunday before I make the book club post.

Sorry a little tangent there. Read how you want, if you’re having fun, keep doing it the way you’re going. Reading is awesome. You do you!

3 what’s on a Wednesday

Just a quick fun thing to do. 3 what’s on a Wednesday! I know I’m a wild and crazy guy! Strap in buckaroo!

What are you currently reading?

Believe it or not, I’m actually reading 2 books! I started Brave New World. I’m almost half way through it. It’s got that weird retro-futuristic vibe happening. I’m digging that. I put that down, because I didn’t want to finish, or almost finish it before the first book club about it.

The second, I just started is The Girl on the Train. I’m only like 4 pages in so far, so I haven’t made the discussion of liking it or not yet. So far, so good though!

What did you recently finish?

Last night, I finished Full Dark, No Stars. I really liked it. Like Crystal says, Kings short stories are sometimes way better than his full length novels.

What do you think you’ll read next?

That’s a hard question. I’ll probably do what I did last time, and crowd source it, and ask you guys.

Happy reading everyone!

What are your quirky reading habits?

Can you only read whilst death metal plays softly in the background? Or does Mars have to be in retrograde?

What are your quirky reading habits? I want to know. I don’t think any of my book habits are quirky.

When I read, it has to be quiet. Quiet. If the TV is on, I can’t read. I’ll sit and watch TV. I’m very easily distracted. So I usually read at night. Shady Acres goes to bed pretty early, so that’s always a bonus.

I rarely use a book mark. I’ll just fold over a page, yet I won’t crack the spine. Some of you are probably fanning yourselves right now at the mention of folding over a page. The next point will give you the vapours!

If the book is begging for it, I’ll write/highlight, whatever. You should see my copy of House of Leaves. It’s been well loved! I also randomly added stickers too.

4 books I’ve discovered while blogging

Since I’ve started blogging, I’ve tried to stick to new and interesting books. Books out of left field, like Ship of Theseus, House of Leaves, etc. I’m trying not to just go back to the old comfortables, like the Dresden Files, random, mysteries, etc. I like to be challenged. Make me work for it! I don’t choose them for the look at what book I’ve read, I’m better than you. Homie don’t play dat.

So in searching for the new and strange, I have come across books that look like they’d be really interesting, here’s a few of them. To wet your whistle, so to speak.

These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong

From what I can tell, it’s a Romeo one Juliet retelling in 1920’s Shanghai. I think it sounds pretty interesting for sure.

The Fifty Year Sword by Mark Z. Danielewski

I think I’d call this more of a short story, and I’ve been keeping my eye out for it at the second hand stores in hopes, of one day finding it.

If On A Winters Night A Traveller by Italo Calvino

It’s a book where you’re actually a character reading If On A Winters Night A Traveller. That sounds pretty cool to me for sure. Of course, you had me at book!

Demon Theory by Stephen Graham Jones

On Halloween, after a crazy call from his mom, Hale and six friends return to the house where his sister disappeared 6 years ago. It’s a psychological tale of cinematic horror, and it sounds really really awesome.

Have you guys (and gals) found any off the wall interesting books out there? Tell me!

You got the most unbelievable blue eyes I’ve ever seen

Happy Monday!! We survived the weekend! It was hard, because there were some pretty crappy movies on. But there were some good ones as well.

I had a good sleep. Only up once 4:57 am. You see the thought creeped in my head yesterday afternoon, what if my pay check doesn’t go in until like 3 or 4 in the afternoon?

So I was wide wide WIDE awake at 4:57 am. I logged into my banking app, waited, saw the balance, and went back to sleep.

Today, later on this morning, I’m gonna go into SlightlyBiggerTown. I’m thinking maybe Chinese food for lunch. I haven’t decided yet.
