Book Club – The Guest List

Welcome back to The Lockup Library Book Club! A book club for the new year! On that note, happy new year as well! Like the title says this weeks book club is The Guest List by Lucy Foley.

I’m about 70% of the way through it. I have a hard time putting it down, it just sucks you in. It’s a slow paced book, with shorter chapters to make it really feel fast paced. But at the heart of it, it’s a slow burner.

I’m really liking this book. I have no idea who the murderer is yet. Or even the fact that they haven’t found a body yet.

But like true murder mysteries, everyone is a suspect. Everyone has a past.

I can’t wait to see how this turns out. I’m really digging the writers style. I don’t mind the fact that in each chapter it’s either after the wedding, or before. That takes a little getting used to and a few seconds to figure out which time frame you’re in.

So far this book is awesome.

Tie me up like I’m surprised

I’ve been up for 15 minutes. I dragged myself out of bed this morning. I almost fell back asleep after my alarm went off, but I willed myself to roll out of bed.

I get up, get dressed, and brushed my teeth. I stumble out into the kitchen to make coffee. I just get the TV turned on, and my gramma comes out to ask what day it is. She really has no concept of time anymore. 5 minutes to her can be two hours. She loses more days, because of it.

Shawshank, what day is it? Is it Sunday?”

Yes gramma, it’s Sunday.

Every Sunday, she has a pill to take. Every Sunday, she makes a big deal out of taking this pill, as if to say look at me, I’m doing what I’ve been told. The dementia, and Alzheimer’s have really turned her back into a child. It’s hard sometimes. She really know how to push my moms buttons.

Coffee, be right back. I need this liquid gold right now.

But this blog isn’t about to be all depressy pants or anything. We positive here. Today I have some chores to do. I have to clean the pellet stove, and there should be a book club sometime today, and just plan bubblegum and happiness!

Happy Sunday! It’s gonna be a pretty good day! Enjoy today everyone! Let’s do this!!

X-Files – Pilot

I ran to the store to get a back of chips. Before I left, Shady Acres was going to stay awake. The plan was to watch a movie. When I got back, the house was sleeping.

I didn’t want to start a movie, because I know that’s when they’d all wake up, and I’d probably have to stop the movie so they could watch something different.

So on my Google Play, I have the pilot episode of The X-Files.

I want to believe

It’s so 90s.

And I’m really enjoying it.

If I can’t have you right now – I’ll wait dear

Good morning, happy Saturday! At least I think it’s Saturday. When you don’t leave the house, the days kinda bleed together. I’m pretty sure it’s Saturday today.

Coffee is brewing. I wonder what today will bring. I don’t know if any movies will play today, as we finished Endgame yesterday. My dad really enjoyed both of the movies. It was fun watching him watch them for the first time. I forgot how long the second was, and 90% of what went on in it too.

So if it’s a quiet day, I think I’ll spend it reading or something. And making some posts.

Happy lazy Saturday everyone 🙂

First Impressions – The Guest List

So this is a new thing I want to try out. I’m calling it “First Impressions”. I’m only a handful of pages into The Guest List by Lucy Foley, and I just want to talk about what I’m thinking about the book as I read the opening chapters.

It’s gonna be a wild ride, methinks.

Reese? Oh Witherspoon, not John Conners dad from The Terminator. Good to know.

So like A Song of Ice and Fire, each chapter is dedicated to one character in the book. We’re introduced to the bride, the plus-one, the best man, the wedding planner, the bridesmaid, and the fiancé. You really get to know them in the opening chapters. But at the end of each chapter, you’re left wanting more.

The other character in the book is the small Irish island out in the Atlantic Ocean. Lucy Foley is doing a great job of describing the island as both menacing, and gentle. I believe I’ve gotten to the point where all the characters are now on the island, and soon, I’m sure, all hell will break loose.

And I can’t wait to see how all this plays out.
