Books – a year in review

As I lie here at 10:42 on New Year’s Eve, scrolling through the discover feature on the WordPress app, I feel the need to talk a lot about all the books I read this year.

It’s been a lot. A lot. Trust me, I had a lot of time on my hands. I’m still trying to figure out how to balance work, and reading. So I am reading more now, at least in the last couple of days.

Some of my favourite books this year have been ones that were bought for me. House of Leaves, The Raw Shark Texts, etc. Some I found on the library cart – The Twilight Saga, some cheesy Janet Evanovich novels, and one called Honour Among Thieves.

I have a pretty nice collection of different books. I read a lot this year. I don’t put a number on it. Not everything needs to be a competition. Read because it’s fun, because as soon as you make it a competition, it’s not fun anymore.

I can’t wait to go on some reading adventures in 2021.

What are you reading to ring in the new year? Me, I’m reading The Guest List by Lucy Foley. I’m enjoying it so far.

See y’all in 2021 book nerds!

Take the world in a love embrace

Good morning all. New Years Eve. The precipice if a new year. The hope of a better year than the last 365 days. Make a wish, only accept positive vibes. New year, new me. All that good stuff.

Only positive vibes.

I have lots of books, some place warm to sleep. And technology to talk to my beautiful wife. This year, the border will open and we’ll be reunited.

2021 will be a better year. Someday, we’ll find an old jacket in the back of the closet, and put our hand in a pocket. We’ll pull out an old mask, and laugh, and what a strange year. Then we’ll finish getting dressed, and as we’re walking out the door, reach for our trusty machete, and go out to forage for food, and kill some zombies. But we’ll always think that 2020 was the strangest year.

I love you very much.

Got Chucks on with Saint Laurent

Good morning, happy hump day! It’s the middle of another short week. You can make the last couple of shifts, I know you can! Remember, when you leave, heroes don’t look at the explosion behind them when they walk away.

Coffee is brewing, and it’s pitch black outside. Last night when I got home, I set up the chromecast. I’ll probably be the only one that uses it. That’s ok, I don’t have to watch movies now, on my phone in my room. I can stay out in the living room and be a people person!

Work again today. Yesterday we got the warehouse organized, and I can get everything in inventory. Today, is our staff meeting about what we’re going to try and accomplish in 2021. Our calendars are wiped clean so we can plan.

But for now – coffee. Happy Wednesday everyone!

Maybe someday the mountain will get them – but the law never will

Happy Tuesday, my lovelies. I was up a little early – 5:47 thinking I slept through my alarm. When I determined that I hadn’t, I rolled over and went back to sleep until my alarm scared me awake. But like my dad said yesterday, “I woke up on the right side of the dirt, I’m doing something right.”

Yesterday was a good day. A good day, but a really long day. 5 hours of travel time in a truck with my family is a long time. We were joking around and I said I’d just watch a movie, I was put up front and my grandmother in the back, so the movie went out the window, and I chit chatted with my dad on the way down.

When we got to BigCity, we went to the mall so my mom could have some jewellery inspected for insurance, I shopped a little, found a book and got a Chromecast. Now, once it’s set up, I don’t have to watch Netflix on my phone I can watch it on an actual TV.

From there it was a trip to a craft shop for my mom, and then a bookstore for me. After a quick 5ish minutes standing in line outside, I was in. At first I was really overwhelmed. But after a minute or two, I found my groove. 45 minutes later, I found a stack of books (see my last post), and left. A quick stop at Home Depot for some light bulbs, and we were on our way home.

After a quick dinner, video chatted with Crystal until it was time for her to shower. We texted back and forth until it was time for bed.

And now, here I am! With coffee. Today, we should be cleaning the warehouse out. A warehouse with no heat. It shouldn’t take too long, and we’ll be back in the shop. I’ll probably be working on the inventory system. Fun fun! Have a great Tuesday you guys!

Book Haul – BigCity edition

Greetings, book nerds! I have been to BigCity, and have returned to TinyTown with books. Book that were published this year! With the exception of one or two, there were all published in 2020.

Amazing, isn’t it. Looking back, I’m really happy that I didn’t go earlier, you know, before I had a job. I didn’t spend as much as I thought I was going to, which is nice. What was nicer, is that I went when they were having the boxing week sale. So essentially, I got two of the books basically free.

Without further adieu, I present my last book haul of 2020.

It took me a few minutes, but I think I’m going to read The Guest List by Lucy Foley first.

From the back of the book: An exclusive wedding on a remote Irish island – the bride, the plus-one, the best man, the wedding planner, the bridesmaid. All have a secret. All have a motive. But only one is a murderer.

Sounds really interesting for sure! I’ll try and get some reading done to talk about it in this weekends Lockup Library Book Club. See you then, book nerds!
