Model Monday – I built a thing

Shawshank, October 18, 2021

I started around 10 am today, and just finished shortly after 3. I took my time. Filed and cut dangly bits, and I didn’t cut myself!

Today I built the Adepta Sororitas Triumph of Saint Katherine. Wow, it’s a lot smaller than I thought it would be- but hella detailed.

So. Many. Tiny. Pieces.

It looks amazing. I really like it. It’s a beautiful model.

That’s the last model (for now) that I have to build. I do plan on going into CapitalCity before Crystal comes, to buy some more models to build. My plan is to paint all winter. And the winter is long here.

Model Monday – Seraphim

November 1, 2021

I had plans to build today. I got everything out and just about ready. I say down, and thought I really don’t feel like doing this. So I packed everything back up. About 40 minutes or so later, I had everything back on the table. I built the 5 Seraphim…

Hobby time – painting the Sororitas Rhino

December 30, 2021

Last weekend was the best weekend. I started painting again! While Crystal was painting her space roach (coast to coast), I decided to paint my Rhino transports. I think so far, they’ve turned up pretty good. Painting for me can be kinda stressful. I dislike doing things more than once…

Warhammer build day

October 11, 2021

And, I’m spent. I just spent the last 3 hours building the Adepta Sororitas Rhino. I only made one mistake – I put one side of the tank treads on backwards, but I think it still looks amazing. I’m pretty proud of it. It’s the “biggest” little model in the…

Morning, bitches. Happy Humpday. It’s Wednesday, and it’s fucking cold. I have a coffee, and snuggly socks. My morning is started, how about yours?

Instead of staying home all day, I spent yesterday morning with Shawshank at work. The shop was closed, so I basically sat in his office while he answered emails and made phone calls. I didn’t do anything, but it was still more than I felt like I’ve done in a while. Plus, it felt better to do that sort of nothing. On our way back home for lunch, we talked about why it was nice to visit him there and why I don’t go over to Shady Acres and hang with his mother and grandmother. My logic is simply I didn’t fly all the way up here to sit in a house with his mom. I’ve spent the last nine months sitting in a house with my own mother, with the same rotation of daytime tv and primetime dvr, maybe a weekly trip to lunch. It’s beyond nice to just be able to put whatever I want on TV, or just stream music while I make a mess in the Flat.

I like being able to do nothing and not feel like I need to explain why I want to do nothing.

Update on Little Plastic Marble Slabs that no on asked for:

I spent the afternoon working on more of the bases for Shawshank’s minis. I wanted to make more bases that were entirely “marble”, which meant sculpting. This was a fine way to blow the afternoon, as I’m always down for sculpting. In addition to sculpting the “blocks”, I also worked on the larger base of his pride and joy, the Triumph of Saint Katherine. I’ve been working on it in various ways for the past week or so, mostly breaking magnetizing parts of it. Magnets installed, I finally reached the point where I could paint the base.

Although I plan to add a little more shading and color depth to some areas, I’m mostly happy with how the marble turned out. I have some more gold highlights to add as well. I considered tweaking the marble on the smaller bases because they didn’t seem “marble-ish” enough. Then I considered something: if I were a tiny-ass nun that size, those blocks would be plenty marble-ish to me.

We’re going out for Christmas stuff this weekend. We’ll be trekking into the capitol: 2+ hours drive there, some lunch, shopping, then another 2+ hours drive back home. “Shopping” is a sort of nebulous idea at the moment, since there’s a few different places we want to go. I had him add watercolor paints to the shopping list so I can work on a painting of his shop for his boss. That means I should probably get started on the outline of it tonight.
